It's wonderful to see people hanging out, talking, interacting, and building community. This Saturday is our 1st Trucks-n-Tunes event from 5-8pm with the Sam Harris Band and Poke Me. All season, we will be supporting the Snohomish Food Bank, so please bring donations for the bin if you can.

a little furry cidery friend
Yes, we have a whole post devoted to our ever-present, super-friendly black cat, "Kitty Coal." Kitty Coal has a long history of greeting customers and lounging around the apple UPICK and cidery. He'll walk with people down the rows of apples and plop down on your table if you're drinking a cider. He tolerates kids, to a point, though he can totally freak them out if he decides to eat his latest rabbit catch in the grass, their faces in shock, maybe leaving a foot as a remi

Blossoms & Bees!
'Tis the season when blooms are everywhere and so are the bees! We called Snohomish Bee Co. over the weekend to come capture a swarm we found huddled in one of our Black Locust trees in the silvopasture. Walking under the Golden Chain trees, you can feel the air vibrate with buzzing bumbles. One evening last week, around dusk, a huge furry moth was bouncing from flower to flower of a Western Azalea in the yard. It's wonderful and a little daunting.....there are so many ap

Celebrating our Rhubarb cider!
We've been happy to share our Rhubarb cider with Obsidian Beer Hall in Everett. They featured it at their 2nd year anniversary event and are true fans of our cider. Cheers Craig! This punchy cider will also be presented at an upcoming Farm To Table event at Pine Creek Nursery in Monroe on May 3rd. These dinners will be held in July and October and are a sweet collaboration highlighting those of us who farm and ferment in the great PNW! RCR will be the venue for their Oc

Dandelions
Just last week, RCR partnered with Agroforestry Northwest and welcomed local tribal community members to harvest dandelions. This event was part of a Biocultural Restoration Initiative to reconnect people with plants that nourish both ecosystems and communities. Dandelion is food and medicine. Check out their fact sheet.

Some photos of late
It's been so wet for us! And then to spark a little PTSD from the Dec 2025 flood, we flooded again last weekend, though not as badly. On the positive side, many trees and plants that spent 4 weeks covered in water look like they're alive! There is some death, but not as bad as it could have been. And the hay fields are vibrant green from all the flood sediment and nutrients. Another surprise is that we experimented with using Salal berries and Evergreen Huckleberries in

Planning for 2026 events!
It's still winter, but we're longing for the warm, sunny weather that's perfect for sitting with friends and drinking cold, refreshing cider. This is the time when we book our musicians and food trucks for another round of Trucks-n-Tunes, plus several art and agroforestry events. We're even considering a Tolkien Trivia night, as we hope to connect with a fanbase of Tolkien enthusiasts who will visit a special maze Farmer Nick has planted (something about 9 rings with quests

Winter blooms
It's been over a month since the BIG flood. Nick and I can travel the trail around our property without a canoe or waders. We walk and see grass, high up in the branches of the trees, at least 8 ft. We see a slimy, brown sludge covering everything. Dead worms and voles, melted pumpkins, debris, all scattered everywhere. We see signs of beaver tasing our apple trees. The smell is powerful! People ask us if we flooded, and we say, yes, what a crazy time that was! They a

Pilchuck Audubon's Annual Christmas Bird Count at RCR
Today, we hosted part of the Pilchuck Audubon's Christmas Bird Count. One benefit of the high flood waters is that we have a lot of new species on our farm. Waterfowl: Lesser Scaup, Bufflehead, Hooded Merganser, Pied-Billed Grebe, and Goldeneye. Here is some info on the Christmas Bird Count in case you'd like to get involved: https://www.audubon.org/community-science/christmas-bird-count/join-christmas-bird-count

Flood Update on 12/14/25
We're happy to report that the water stopped overtopping Friday night, and when we woke up Saturday morning, the flood left behind a pudding-like layer of silt on the road. We spent the rest of the day visiting with neighbors, sharing stories, and processing; after which we began the cleanup. Late in the afternoon, Nick and I canoed the back pastures, fields, and forests, assessing the damage and being in awe of the amount of water that now rests in the back of all our pro

Flood Update ... morning of 12/12/25 pt. 1
First of all, thank you to all the people who have reached out, checking in on how we're doing, and offering to help in any way. We are touched by that kindness! We wish there were more people could do; it feels helpless waiting for the water to go down. This has been really challenging, lots of anxiety, lots of wondering if our dike system will hold up with this record-level water over this many days. And we're still very much living this reality. The water has only min

We're going to be at Obsidian Beer Hall, Everett!
There are a few establishments in the area that will have our cider kegs during the off-season - Obsidian Beer Hall at 1420 Hewitt Ave in Everett is the 1st! Come meet owner Craig, sink into a comfy chair, relax, and take in the chill vibe. Local art covers the walls, and the tap selection is unique and Washington-based. https://obsidianbeerhall.com/

A Snohomish County Almanac begins again...
Back in December of 2017, Nick started writing a monthly reflection about the farm, charting the seasonal changes, the mundane chores, every day farm life, and his ponderings. His last entry was January 2020....and then there was COVID....and then we got busy. He's come back to it, and we're going to send it out through our farm email. It's a way for you all to stay connected to us, especially in the off-season. The full blog can be found at the link below (or on the Cons

Experimenting with Quince!
This Fall we're seeing what we can do with quince. We have ~50 quince trees of several varieties on the farm. They're still young and will come into full production in a couple more years. They smell amazing, but their juice was really tart....we'll see how this ferments. We may have a small batch on tap next season?
